Gary Neal Abbott, a 52-year-old resident of Chesapeake, Ohio, has been sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. The sentence is for possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of a mixture and substances containing methamphetamine.

Court documents reveal that on August 9, 2024, law enforcement stopped Abbott's vehicle in Ashton, West Virginia. During the stop, Abbott informed the officer about a firearm in the vehicle and mentioned possible presence of marijuana and methamphetamine. A search led to the discovery of approximately 8.7 ounces of methamphetamine in a black bag, smaller amounts of methamphetamine and marijuana in another container, and a Glock model 30 Gen4 .45-caliber pistol on the front seat.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston announced the sentencing and praised the West Virginia State Police for their investigative efforts.

The sentence was imposed by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie Taylor handled the prosecution.
