Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that James Magee, a 51-year-old resident of Mississippi, has pleaded guilty to assaulting a co-worker on an oil platform. The plea was entered on May 8, 2025, and the incident constitutes a violation of 18 U.S.C. § 113(a)(4).
Court documents reveal that Magee physically attacked his colleague during their work shift. The altercation involved punching and kicking until the two men were separated. The victim required medical attention and was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Morgan City. He sustained orbital fractures around his eye, bruising to his left eye socket and upper side torso, as well as a chipped tooth.
Magee is facing serious legal consequences, including up to one year of imprisonment, a possible supervised release for up to one year, fines reaching $100,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $25.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Coast Guard Investigative Services. Assistant United States Attorney Christine Calogero along with Duane A. Evans from the General Crimes Unit are leading the prosecution efforts.
