A Guatemalan national, previously deported after a drug trafficking conviction, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Rhode Island for illegal re-entry into the United States. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom announced the indictment of Pedro Andony Alvarado Aguilar, aged 49.
Court records reveal that Aguilar was convicted in November 2014 in federal court in Connecticut on charges related to conspiracy to import significant quantities of cocaine and heroin. Following his conviction, he was deported on July 1, 2015. Allegations now claim that Aguilar has illegally returned to the U.S. and is currently residing in Rhode Island.
Aguilar's arraignment is scheduled for May 12, 2025, at the U.S. District Court in Providence. It is important to note that an indictment serves as an accusation, and a defendant remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Assistant United States Attorney Peter I. Roklan is prosecuting the case. The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
This legal action forms part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation integrates resources from various task forces including the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).
