A Muscatine man has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for the production and possession of child pornography. The sentencing took place in Davenport, Iowa, where it was revealed that Calvin Shawn Carter, aged 29, was involved in producing and possessing child sexual abuse material.
Court documents indicated that law enforcement received CyberTips linked to an account associated with Carter. These tips led to a search of his residence, during which electronic devices were seized. The devices contained videos and images of child sexual abuse material that Carter had produced involving a minor victim between 2021 and 2023. Additional images and videos were found on Carter's phone depicting child sexual abuse material involving minor males.
Upon completion of his prison term, Carter will be subject to a ten-year term of supervised release. It is important to note that there is no parole available in the federal system.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal from the Southern District of Iowa announced the sentencing. The investigation was conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety-Division of Criminal Investigation-Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address the increasing problem of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to coordinate resources at various governmental levels to locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders while identifying and rescuing victims.
