A Sioux City man, Alpacino Lewis Jr., has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison following a guilty plea to possession of a firearm by a felon. The sentence, issued on April 25, 2025, will run consecutively to his current state sentence.
Lewis, aged 24, was apprehended after attempting to evade a traffic stop on February 14, 2024. During the incident, he collided with a police vehicle and drove over a parking meter before losing control of his car and fleeing on foot. Officers discovered a stolen, loaded semiautomatic firearm along his escape route. Additionally, marijuana residue was found on him, and further investigation led to the discovery of THC products at his residence.
Judge Leonard T. Strand of the United States District Court in Sioux City sentenced Lewis to 110 months in prison followed by one year of supervised release. There is no possibility of parole in the federal system.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at reducing violent crime through collaboration among various stakeholders and focusing enforcement efforts on violent offenders.
Currently held in the custody of the United States Marshal's Service, Lewis awaits transfer to a federal prison. The investigation was conducted by the Sioux City Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
