A Honduran national, Darwin Xavier Gonzalez-Munoz, has pled guilty to the charge of illegal reentry into the United States after being previously deported. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced the plea on April 30, 2025. Gonzalez-Munoz, aged 30, violated Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a) by reentering the country after his deportation on or about June 24, 2024.
Gonzalez-Munoz faces a potential sentence of up to two years in prison, a fine reaching $250,000, up to one year of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America. This initiative aims to address illegal immigration and combat cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The operation utilizes resources from the Department of Justice's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
The investigation was conducted by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement along with Enforcement Removal Operations. Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
