The convening of Utah's grand jury panel of judges will occur on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the Vernal 8th District Courthouse. The address for the courthouse is 920 U.S. Hwy 40, Vernal, Utah.
This meeting is set to evaluate whether a grand jury should be summoned based on presented evidence of criminal activity. The panel will receive testimony in secret from individuals who claim to possess information that necessitates the calling of a grand jury. Testifying individuals will be sworn in and are expected to provide evidence supporting their claims. Additionally, officials such as the Attorney General, county attorneys, district attorneys, or special prosecutors appointed under U.C.A. section 77-10a-1 can present evidence of criminal activity. The meeting will not address disputes between individuals, civil matters, or issues subject to criminal appeal.
Individuals intending to testify need to contact Keri Sargent, Deputy District Court Administrator, at (801) 238-7547 by Monday, June 2, 2024, at noon to schedule an appointment and receive more detailed instructions.
Special accommodation requests for the hearing must be made at least three business days before the meeting. If there are no scheduled appointments by the specified deadline, the meeting will be called off without additional notification.
The grand jury panel of judges consists of Supervising Judge Elizabeth Hruby-Mills from the 3rd District Court, Judge Roger Griffin of the 4th District Court, Judge Blaine Rawson from the 2nd District Court, Judge Matthew Bell of the 5th District Court, and Judge Paul Parker, also from the 3rd District Court.
