Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson reported that Kylin Sexton, a 25-year-old resident of Hammond, has admitted guilt to charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. Sexton faces up to 20 years in prison, potential fines reaching $1,000,000, a minimum three-year supervised release which could extend to life, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee. The events unfolded on April 24, 2025, with Chief U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown set to determine Sexton's sentence on July 24, 2025.

Sexton had previously pleaded guilty on October 10, 2024, for being a felon in possession of ammunition, infringing upon 18 U.S.C. §§ 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).

Court records indicate that on May 18, 2022, a complaint led the Ponchatoula Police Department to investigate Sexton and a co-conspirator’s firearm possession. Officers found the pair in a vehicle, to which the co-conspirator initially resisted commands. A Glock Model 17 handgun, equipped with a machine gun conversion device, was found inside the vehicle. Additionally, marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride were discovered in a green backpack in Sexton’s possession.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives alongside the Ponchatoula Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed from the Violent Crime Unit.
