A Norfolk resident has been sentenced to eight years and one month of imprisonment for multiple offenses involving drugs and firearms. The charges include possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and using a firearm during a drug-trafficking crime.

According to reports, from July 25, 2023, to August 7, 2023, the Chesapeake Police Department carried out four controlled purchases of narcotics and firearms from Donte Rodrick Mondy, also known as Tae. The transactions involved a total sale of 2.9 grams of fentanyl and xylazine, 6.1 grams of fentanyl, 4.49 grams of the aforementioned mixture, and 8.07 grams of parafluorofentanyl, cocaine, and xylazine.

On August 29, 2023, a search was conducted by members of the Chesapeake Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and the Norfolk Police Department at locations linked to Mondy, including his residence. During this operation, authorities detained Mondy as he departed his home. A search of his satchel revealed a loaded handgun, a cellphone, and various narcotic substances. Additionally, materials such as a digital scale and six bags of marijuana were found at Mondy’s residence.

Mondy was previously convicted of felony possession of cocaine and assault and battery of a family member, marking his third offense. Given his status as a previously convicted felon, he is legally banned from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The sentencing was announced by several officials, including Virginia Attorney General Jason S. Miyares, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia Erik S. Siebert, DEA Special Agent Ibrar A. Mian, Anthony A. Spotswood of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Mark G. Solesky of the Chesapeake Police. The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc W. West.

This proceeding is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The announcement was made following the sentencing by U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen. The full press release is available on the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia's website.
