A Mexican national, Audencio Vazquez-Calletano, made an initial court appearance on Tuesday to address charges of reentering the United States illegally after having been deported three times before. The charges involve one count of a deported alien found in the United States, and a preliminary hearing is set for May 13, 2025, in front of United States Magistrate Judge Elayna J. Youchah.

Details from the criminal complaint and court statements allege that Vazquez-Calletano, aged 31, a citizen and national of Mexico, was deported on May 13, 2011, February 22, 2012, and June 21, 2024. He reportedly reentered the United States illegally by April 14, 2025.

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) apprehended Vazquez-Calletano near Searchlight, Nevada, on April 14, 2025. His attempt to escape CBP detection proved unsuccessful. Vazquez-Calletano holds a prior felony conviction for vehicle theft in Santa Barbara County, California.

If convicted, Vazquez-Calletano faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a three-year term of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.

This announcement was made by United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.

The investigation was conducted by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada handling the prosecution. The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activity by calling 866-DHS-2-ICE or using the online tip form.

It's important to note that a complaint is merely an accusation, and Vazquez-Calletano is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
