Jeremiah Malik Jefferson, a 27-year-old resident of Benicia, was sentenced to seven years in federal prison following his second conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. The sentencing was carried out by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez, as announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith.

As per court documents, on October 1, 2023, Jefferson brandished a firearm during an argument while on supervised release from a prior 2021 conviction for a similar offense. A search at his residence on November 1, 2023, led to the discovery of a stolen firearm loaded with a high-capacity magazine. Due to multiple felony convictions, including burglary and a previous gun possession conviction, Jefferson is prohibited from firearm possession. He received an additional two-year sentence for violating supervised release terms, to be served concurrently with the seven-year sentence.

The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the U.S. Probation Office, Benicia Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the FBI’s Solano County Violent Crimes Task Force, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Adrian T. Kinsella prosecuting.

This conviction is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement and communities. The U.S. Department of Justice's strategy focuses on improving trust, supporting community organizations, setting enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
