Attorney General Jason Miyares has aligned with 28 other attorneys general to urge the Trump administration to persist in addressing the issue of illegal Chinese e-cigarettes targeting American youth. The coalition highlights that these products, which often use attractive packaging and flavors, are specifically marketed toward children, despite youth tobacco rates being at all-time lows.
Recent findings show that billions of dollars’ worth of illicit Chinese e-cigarettes have infiltrated the U.S. market. A significant portion of young individuals using e-cigarettes are consuming these unregulated and smuggled products. According to Attorney General Miyares, "Many of the China-based e-cigarette manufacturers and distributors deliberately bypass critical public health safeguards, intentionally mislabeling products to evade detection by the FDA and U.S. Customs."
The coalition is advocating for continued stringent measures by the Trump administration to mitigate this issue and is prepared to collaborate on initiatives to hold responsible parties accountable for bringing these products into the country. The group of states joining Miyares includes Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wyoming, and Guam.
