A Norfolk man received a prison sentence of eight years and ten months for drug trafficking and firearm possession offenses. Brian Kahlil Jones Jr., 28, was convicted of intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of a firearm as a felon.
Court documents revealed that between November 2023 and January 2024, Jones distributed 159.93 grams of fentanyl. These activities were part of controlled purchases by the Virginia Beach Police Department and the HIDTA Enforcement Group 72 at the DEA Norfolk District Office.
Jones was arrested on January 17, 2024. During a search of his vehicle, officers found 26 grams of crack cocaine, 55 grams of fentanyl, 102 grams of marijuana, and a stolen handgun. At the time, Jones was on state probation.
Subsequent searches at Jones' Norfolk residence uncovered 198.31 grams of fentanyl, 4.21 grams of heroin, 419 methamphetamine pills, seven oxycodone pills, a kilo press, packing material, cutting agents, a cellphone, ammunition, and another handgun.
Jones has previous convictions, including a 2013 conviction for malicious wounding and using a firearm during a felony, arising from shots fired at the residence of rival gang members. As a felon, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The sentencing was announced by Jason S. Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia; Erik S. Siebert, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Ibrar A. Mian, DEA Washington Division Special Agent in Charge; Mark Talbot, Chief of Norfolk Police; and Paul Neudigate, Chief of Virginia Beach Police, after a ruling by Senior U.S. District Judge John A. Gibney Jr.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristin G. Bird and former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Alyssa Miller pursued the case. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods and Ceasefire Virginia, initiatives aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.
