U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. has outlined the achievements of his first 100 days in office, noting a significant decrease in violent crime within the District of Columbia. "This office is working diligently and collaboratively to achieve a lower rate in violent crime and in crime, across the board, for the residents and visitors to our nation’s capital," Martin stated. Since assuming his role, there has been a reported 25 percent decline in violent crime across the area.
Martin is participating in President Trump's "Make DC Safe and Beautiful" Task Force. Metropolitan Police Department statistics show a 30 percent reduction in robberies and a drop in homicides for the year 2025.
Expressing his appreciation for the effort of his team, Martin said, "I am proud of the tireless work that the people in this office do, day in and day out, to serve this community and their country."
Among the prosecuted cases are several notable instances. These include a fifth defendant charged in the March 11 assault on Metropolitan Police Department officers, charges filed concerning the assault on a Metro Transit police officer, and a 104-month prison sentence for an armed robber who assaulted a correctional officer. Additionally, two teens were indicted on charges of assault with intent to kill after firing shots near a high school, and a D.C. man admitted guilt to a 2023 homicide at the Navy Yard Metro station. Other significant cases include a prison sentence linked to a sexual assault on a Metro train and a 35-year sentence for a man convicted in a 2023 stranger rape and kidnapping following a robbery attempt.
