A Mexican resident previously deported from the United States seven times between 2013 and 2017 has been sentenced after pleading guilty in a federal court to the charge of illegal reentry. The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti.

Senior United States District Judge Nora Barry Fischer handed down the sentence to 38-year-old Dario Fortunato-Torres, on April 28, 2025.

Court documents revealed that Fortunato-Torres was arrested by Moon Township Police Department on October 8, 2024, for several traffic violations. The charges were later withdrawn, but it was determined by immigration officials that Fortunato-Torres was in the United States illegally. He was subsequently arrested on November 19, 2024. Fortunato-Torres, who had previously been removed from the United States multiple times, has been in custody since this arrest and is set to re-enter immigration custody.

The case was prosecuted on behalf of the government by Assistant United States Attorney Rebecca L. Silinski.

Acting United States Attorney Rivetti acknowledged the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for their investigative work that contributed to the prosecution of Fortunato-Torres.
