New York's Attorney General, Letitia James, has marked the first 100 days of the Trump administration by recounting legal actions her office has undertaken in response to some of the administration's policies. Since January 20, James has been active in legal proceedings, filing and joining 15 lawsuits and 22 amicus briefs alongside Democratic state attorneys general. These actions have aimed to counter policies that are viewed as unconstitutional or harmful. In her statement, James remarked, "We will not allow this administration to trample our Constitution, strip Americans of their fundamental rights, and dismantle critical services that millions rely on every day."

One of the key lawsuits filed by Attorney General James includes efforts against President Trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship, where she secured a preliminary injunction upheld by the First Circuit. Additionally, her challenge to the administration's attempt to freeze federal funding resulted in a temporary restraining order and the restoration of billions in federal funds.

Further legal proceedings include blocking the Department of Government Efficiency from accessing sensitive Treasury Systems, halting NIH's policy on medical research funding cuts, and opposing the cancellation of teacher training grants. Other lawsuits target mass federal worker firings, the dismantling of the Department of Education, public health funding cuts, and election interference, among others.

Attorney General James has also utilized amicus briefs to support critical lawsuits nationwide. Examples include opposition to the disbanding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and defense of transgender rights in multiple instances. Moreover, she has filed briefs in support of terminated Temporary Protected Status for immigrants and against planned terminations of humanitarian parole programs.

Beyond the courtroom, James has responded to broader federal policies through various initiatives, including letters to New York healthcare providers, comments on State Department passport policies, and joint statements with other attorneys general defending DEIA initiatives.

Attorney General James continues to play a significant role in safeguarding the rights of New Yorkers and opposing federal policies perceived as harmful or unlawful.
