A Nevada, Iowa resident has been charged with federal stalking, appearing before a United States Magistrate Judge in the Southern District of Iowa. The individual, Tanner Dean Bandy, aged 28, is alleged to have repeatedly threatened a former romantic partner via text messages and voicemails between January and April 2025.
According to the criminal complaint, Bandy left a voicemail two days before his arrest—which took place on April 17, 2025—indicating plans to commit a mass shooting at an Iowa State University commencement ceremony. Following this, law enforcement conducted a search of Bandy's residence and vehicle, discovering two firearms and ammunition in the process.
The announcement of the arrest came from United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation is a joint effort led by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, along with the Iowa State University Police Department and the Story County Sheriff’s Office.
It is important to note that a criminal complaint serves merely as an allegation and all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
