A man has been charged in connection with a cold case involving the disappearance and death of his former spouse. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost and Huron County Prosecutor James Sitterly stated that Paul Hicks, a 50-year-old resident of Sandusky, is accused of crimes related to the 2001 disappearance and subsequent death of Regina Rowe Hicks.
The charges against Hicks include three counts of murder and one count of kidnapping. He was apprehended by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the U.S. Marshals Service after being indicted in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
The circumstances surrounding Regina Hicks' case began on October 18, 2001. Witnesses recall her leaving her boyfriend’s home around 8 p.m. to collect her son, driving a white Chevrolet Camaro. However, she never arrived, and days later, on October 22, the vehicle was discovered in a pond at Section Line Road 30 in Willard, containing her body.
Joint investigative efforts between the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Huron County Sheriff’s Office led to the current charges. The prosecution is being handled by the Huron County Prosecutor’s Office, supported by the Special Prosecutions Section of Dave Yost's office.
It must be noted that the indictments are mere allegations, and Hicks remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
