Jovan Terrell Williams, a 20-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been sentenced to 180 months in federal prison. This sentence from the U.S. District Court follows Williams's involvement in an armed carjacking and participation in a drug trafficking conspiracy with the Kennedy Street Crew. The sentencing was announced by federal officials, including U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. and ATF Special Agent Anthony Spotswood.
Williams, known as "Chewy," pled guilty on September 5, 2024, to charges of armed carjacking and conspiracy to traffic over 100 kilograms of marijuana. U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell also imposed a five-year supervised release following his prison term.
The announcement further noted that Williams was the final member of the 17-person KDY Crew to be sentenced. Just a day before, the group's leader, Kenneth Ademola Olugbenga, was given a 160-month sentence.
The Kennedy Street Crew was recognized as a violent drug trafficking organization operating in Northwest D.C. Williams, a member who evaded arrest for months, was involved in an incident on November 17, 2023. He, along with associates, carjacked a Chevrolet Corvette at gunpoint, which eventually led to an armed robbery using stolen vehicles later that evening.
Authorities used a stolen Apple Air Tag to track Williams and arrested him and his associates at an apartment building. During the arrest, officers recovered firearms, including a modified ghost gun, linked to Williams through DNA evidence.
This case was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation, focusing on dismantling high-level criminal networks. The ATF, Metropolitan Police Department, DEA, and FBI conducted the investigation, with the prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Matthew W. Kinskey and Sitara Witanachchi.
