Damani Lamont Carmon, a 31-year-old resident of the District, has been sentenced to 24 months in prison by the U.S. District Court for possession of a Glock firearm. This sentence follows Carmon's guilty plea on December 6, 2024, to the charge of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Chief Judge James E. Boasberg, in addition to the prison term, ordered Carmon to serve three years of supervised release.
The incident occurred on April 30, 2024, when Metropolitan Police Department officers stopped Carmon's vehicle on the 1800 block of Benning Road Northeast. The vehicle was initially stopped for a traffic violation. Inside the car, officers found an open container of tequila and discovered a Glock 23 .40 caliber firearm loaded with 14 rounds of ammunition in the center console. DNA testing linked the firearm to Carmon.
Federal law prohibits Carmon, a previously convicted felon, from firearm possession. In 2021, Carmon was convicted of assault with intent to kill and carrying a pistol without a license due to a shooting at a Washington, D.C. gas station in 2019. At the time of this latest offense, he was on supervised release for the previous conviction.
Carmon has been in custody without bond since his arrest on October 1, 2024. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Metropolitan Police Department, supported by the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, under Project Safe Neighborhoods.
The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rachel Craft, with assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul V. Courtney and Kyle R. Mirabelli.
