Timothy Clark, a 30-year-old resident of the District of Columbia, has been indicted on federal firearms charges. This announcement is part of the "Make D.C. Safe Again" initiative, as stated by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr., alongside Anthony Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge at the ATF, and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

The initiative, spearheaded by U.S. Attorney Martin, aims to combat violent crime in the District of Columbia by prioritizing federal firearms violations and enforcing stricter penalties for offenders. It also involves efforts to detain federal firearms violators.

The indictment charges Clark with one count of unlawful possession of a firearm following an incident on May 10, 2024. According to court documents, Timothy Clark was arrested after a traffic stop on Constitution Avenue. A routine patrol by the United States Capitol Police revealed a vehicle with an expired temporary registration, leading to the stop. The driver, identified as Clark, could not provide a valid license or registration.

Further investigation during the arrest revealed outstanding warrants for Clark from Queen Anne's County Sheriff and a Failure to Appear warrant in D.C. An inventory search of the vehicle subsequently led to the discovery of a black backpack containing a handgun and ammunition.

Due to previous felony convictions in the Superior Court and Circuit Court for Queen Anne's County, Maryland, Clark is legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

This case is being handled by the ATF Washington Field Office and the Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Tortorice is prosecuting the case.

It should be noted that an indictment is merely an allegation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
