Eric Jason Franklin, a 53-year-old resident of Okemah, Oklahoma, has admitted guilt to the charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. The charge carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

The indictment states that Franklin was found in possession of a .410-gauge pump-action shotgun and 15 rounds of .410-gauge ammunition on July 15, 2024. This occurred despite his previous conviction, which involved a prison term exceeding one year.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation leading to this charge.

The plea was accepted by U.S. Magistrate Judge D. Edward Snow, operating in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Judge Snow has requested a presentence investigation report be completed.

A U.S. District Court Judge will later decide on the sentence, considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with statutory factors.

While awaiting sentencing, Franklin remains in custody under the United States Marshals Service.

The United States was represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson.
