A Wolf Lake man has been sentenced to 150 months in federal prison after admitting to gun offenses. Kyle M. Bond, 41, pled guilty to charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of an unregistered firearm. His sentence also includes three years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

The U.S. Attorney's Office emphasized the importance of keeping firearms out of the hands of convicted felons. U.S. Attorney Steven D. Weinhoeft stated, "In an effort to protect the public and help keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals, convicted felons lose their right to legally possess firearms. As this case demonstrates, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work to remove repeat criminal offenders who threaten the safety of our communities."

On January 5, 2023, Union County Sheriff's deputies executed a search warrant at Bond's residence. The search led to the discovery of nine firearms, including six rifles and three handguns. Four of these firearms had obliterated serial numbers. Among the weapons found was an unregistered short-barrel semi-automatic rifle with a barrel length of around 12 ½ inches, violating federal laws.

Bond's prior felony conviction in Missouri prohibited him from legally possessing firearms. "Mr. Bond showed blatant disregard of federal laws that have been put in place to assure public safety," said Bernard Hansen, Special Agent in Charge at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. "As we did in this case, we will continue to work with the Union County Sheriff’s Office to ensure that safety of our communities."

The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Union County Sheriff’s Office and ATF. Assistant U.S. Attorney J. David Sanders handled the prosecution.
