Leake County man pleads guilty to Red Water Day Care burglary

On April 17, 2025, a man from Leake County pleaded guilty to the burglary of the Red Water Day Care in the Red Water Community, a part of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. John Edward Tubby, Jr., aged 34, confessed to the crime which occurred in May 2024, during which he took several electronic devices from the day care center.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi. The case was investigated by the Choctaw Police Department.

John Edward Tubby, Jr. is set to be sentenced in July, facing a maximum imprisonment of seven years. The sentence will be decided by a federal district judge, who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal factors.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian K. Burns and Kevin J. Payne led the prosecution.
