A federal jury in Miami has convicted Daniel Alberto Carpman, a former physician in South Florida, of illegally distributing opioids from his pain management clinic, the Daniel Carpman MD Medical Center. Carpman was found guilty on one count of conspiracy to distribute opioids and four counts of illegally distributing oxycodone. He could face up to 20 years in prison for each count, with sentencing scheduled by United States District Court Judge Melissa Damian for June 22, 2025. Carpman was taken into custody following the verdict.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that Carpman prescribed over two million doses of maximum strength, immediate-release oxycodone to patients who then resold the medication to drug distributors.
The announcement of the verdict was made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O'Byrne for the Southern District of Florida, along with Acting Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of the FBI's Miami Field Office, and Acting Special Agent in Charge Jesus Barranco of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Miami Regional Office.
