United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III has announced the appointment of Lisa M. Fletcher and Cyrus P.W. Rieck to senior supervisory roles within the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of New York. Fletcher will serve as Chief of the Criminal Division, while Rieck takes the role of Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. They will retain their positions along with other senior managers including First Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Chief of the Civil Division Karen Folster Lesperance.
Sarcone stated, "I am pleased to make these appointments which I believe add great depth of experience and perspective to our decision-making to better serve the Northern District of New York and the mission of the Department of Justice."
Fletcher has been part of the U.S. Attorney's Office since 1999, previously serving as Deputy Criminal Chief and the Project Safe Childhood Coordinator. She has a background as an Assistant District Attorney in New York and Onondaga Counties. Fletcher is an alumna of Niagara University and St. John's University School of Law.
Rieck joined the U.S. Attorney's Office in 2014. Before his latest appointment, he was a Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney. His prior roles include associate at the law firm Orrick, Herrington, and Sutcliffe, LLP and law clerk positions for Judge Paul A. Crotty and Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. Rieck graduated from Tulane University and the University of Miami Law School.
Hanlon, who joined the office in 2008, formerly held roles as Criminal Chief, Deputy Criminal Chief, and Narcotics Chief. He was also an Assistant District Attorney in Rensselaer County. Hanlon is a graduate of SUNY Binghamton and Albany Law School.
Lesperance joined in 2012 and served as Deputy Civil Chief before becoming Chief of the Civil Division. Her previous work includes roles as an associate with McCabe and Mack LLP and with Testa, Hurwitz, and Thibeault LLP. Lesperance graduated from SUNY Albany and Albany Law School.
