Erik Schleehauf, a resident of Washington, D.C., faces charges of assaulting a police officer while armed and assault with a deadly weapon. The charges arise from an incident that occurred on April 15, 2025, involving a Metro Transit Police Officer, according to a statement released by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Michael Anzallo of the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD).

Schleehauf, 43, was presented in court and ordered to be held without bond. His preliminary hearing will take place on April 18, 2025, before Superior Court Judge Robert A. Salerno.

Court documents reveal that on April 15th, at around 2:26 p.m., an MTPD Sergeant noticed Schleehauf attempting to evade fare by jumping over the glass gates at the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station. When the Sergeant tried to stop him from exiting via the escalators, Schleehauf allegedly produced a sharpened tool from his person and inflicted puncture wounds to the Sergeant's face. The injuries were not life-threatening, and the Sergeant received treatment at a local hospital.

Schleehauf was taken into custody at the scene. The Metro Transit Police Department is conducting an investigation into the matter.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Nickolas Reck is prosecuting the case.

The legal process acknowledges that charges are mere accusations, and any defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
