U.S. Attorney’s Office honors 22 advocates for victim support in Indiana

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Indiana held a private ceremony on April 10, 2025, to honor 22 members of various law enforcement agencies. These individuals were recognized for their efforts in advocating for the rights of crime victims, supporting survivors, and effecting positive change within their communities.

Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, John E. Childress, stated, “This ceremony is a small token of our appreciation for the selfless dedication of those working tirelessly to ensure victims' voices are heard, guiding them through the often-complex federal criminal justice process, and providing critical resources and emotional support.”

The ceremony included several categories of awards:

- The *Federal Law Enforcement Victim Assistance Award* was given to FBI Special Agents Vanessa Hassler and Russell Warlick for their dedication to upholding victims' rights and bridging the gap between law enforcement and victims.

- The *Victim Advocate Award* was presented to Suzanne O’Malley, Linda Crocheron, and Jessica Zotz for providing essential support, resources, and advocacy to trauma-affected individuals.

- The *Assistant United States Attorney Victim Assistance Award* honored Jayson W. McGrath and Peter A. Blackett for offering exceptional support and advocacy for victims throughout the legal process.

- The *Support Professional Victim Assistance Award* recognized Sarah Helbig and Natoyia Sims for their dedication to supporting crime victims during legal proceedings.

- The *Victim Assistance Trial Team Award* was given to members of trial teams involved in the cases U.S. v. Demetris Campbell and U.S. v. Angela Baldwin. These teams consisted of numerous professionals, including Assistant U.S. Attorneys and FBI Special Agents, who demonstrated outstanding teamwork in supporting victims through the trial process.

Overall, the ceremony emphasized the commitment of legal and law enforcement professionals in addressing the challenges faced by crime victims and ensuring their rights and well-being are prioritized.
