A jury has convicted a Pawtucket man on charges of sexual assault in a Providence County Superior Court case involving a juvenile female victim. The announcement was made by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha.
On April 14, 2025, Johnnie Doe, age 60, was found guilty of three counts of first-degree sexual assault following a four-day trial presided over by Superior Court Justice Joseph A. Montalbano.
Doe's legal troubles are extensive. Previously, he was convicted on four counts of second-degree child molestation by a jury trial on June 13, 2022. Superior Court Justice Stephen P. Nugent sentenced him to 25 years, with 12 years to be served at the Adult Correctional Institutions, on August 22, 2022. Moreover, he faces a charge of first-degree child molestation in a separate ongoing case.
Attorney General Neronha highlighted the severe impact of sexual assault on victims, noting the crime's frequent underreporting due to physical and emotional trauma. "The more we collectively provide avenues for victims to come forward and feel supported, the more accountability we will achieve," he stated, acknowledging the victim's bravery.
Throughout the trial, the State presented concrete evidence revealing Doe's actions from 2014 to 2017, proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. The victim was acquainted with the perpetrator.
The investigation and prosecution were overseen by Special Assistant Attorneys General Jonathan Burke and Taylor Matook, alongside Detective Andrew Torres of the Pawtucket Police Department.
