The U.S. Attorney’s Office has charged 24 individuals with federal firearm offenses as part of the recently initiated 'Make D.C. Safe Again' campaign. The campaign was highlighted by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., who elaborated on its objectives.

“Make no mistake: our mission is to Make D.C. Safe Again by getting felons with guns off our streets and out of our communities,” stated Martin. He further referenced the President’s Executive Order, centered around ensuring law and order within the nation’s capital.

In April alone, the U.S. Attorney’s Office launched six new cases involving federal firearm charges, which are part of the campaign's push to remove dangerous offenders from public areas. Examples of the cases filed include:

1. A defendant previously convicted of manslaughter was indicted for unlawful possession of a firearm.

2. A local man was indicted for firearm possession after being arrested near a recreation center.

3. Another district man faced similar charges following his arrest in Southwest Washington.

The 'Make D.C. Safe Again' initiative operates in line with the President’s Executive Order to enhance safety and beauty in Washington D.C. It places emphasis on reducing gun violence by prioritizing federal firearm violations with tougher penalties and seeking detention for offenders.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police Department, is involved in the investigation of these cases.

Authorities remind the public that indictments are purely allegations, and all defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.
