A man from Saskatchewan, Canada, Quentin Joel Nighttraveller, has been sentenced to 14 years in a federal prison for transporting a minor across borders to engage in criminal sexual activity. The judgment was delivered on March 6, 2025.
Court records reveal that Nighttraveller, 45, transported his fourteen-year-old daughter from Canada to the United States while working as a commercial truck driver. The journey took a grim turn in Rogers, Minnesota, where Nighttraveller halted for truck repairs and sexually assaulted the minor. As the trip continued, the victim managed to escape the truck at a gas station in Avoca, Iowa, and sought help, leading to Nighttraveller fleeing the scene.
Post-incarceration, Nighttraveller will face a five-year supervised release period, noting that the federal system does not allow parole.
United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa publicized the sentencing. The investigation was spearheaded by the Federal Bureau of Investigation alongside the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office.
This legal proceeding aligns with Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative by the Department of Justice to address child sexual exploitation and abuse, launched in May 2006. The initiative combines federal, state, and local resources to pursue, apprehend, and prosecute offenders who exploit children, particularly through the internet, and to rescue victims.
