California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin H. Liu will be recognized as the 2025 Roger Wilkins Fellow by the American Academy of Political and Social Science (AAPSS) in the upcoming fall season. This honor acknowledges his contributions to social science, public policy, and public discourse.

Justice Liu expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am very humbled to be elected to the AAPSS and to receive this honor named for Roger Wilkins, an extraordinary lawyer, historian, journalist, and civic leader. I was lucky to know Roger early in my career, and his example inspired my own dedication to civil rights, public service, and justice for all.”

Specializing in constitutional law, educational law and policy, and diversity within the legal field, Justice Liu continues to teach constitutional law as a visiting professor nationally. He has been serving on the California Supreme Court since 2011 after his tenure as a professor of law and associate dean at the UC Berkeley School of Law.

Justice Liu is an elected member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, the American Law Institute, and the American Philosophical Society. In 2023, he assumed the role of chair of the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. His roles also extend to the Council of the American Law Institute, the Board of Directors of the James Irvine Foundation, and the presidency of the Yale University Council.

Born to Taiwanese immigrants in Sacramento, Justice Liu completed his early education in public schools, later earning degrees from Stanford, Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and Yale. His professional journey included clerkships with Judge David Tatel on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court.
