A Browning man received a 15-month prison sentence followed by five years of supervised release for failing to register as a sex offender and attempting to evade law enforcement. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme announced the sentence.
Austin Kade Goings, 27, admitted guilt in October 2024 to charges of failing to register as a sex offender, a felony, and attempting to elude a peace officer, a misdemeanor. The case was overseen by Chief U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris.
According to court records, Goings was previously on federal supervised release after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a minor. His earlier sentence, issued in April 2021, included 21 months of custody followed by five years of supervised release. After his release from federal custody in January 2024 due to a revocation, Goings did not update his sex offender registration, prompting a warrant for his arrest.
On July 25, 2024, an undercover officer reported seeing Goings driving on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. Upon receiving this information, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services and Glacier County Sheriff’s Office officers attempted a traffic stop. Goings fled, reaching speeds of 100 mph through the Starr School community and forced another vehicle off the road. The U.S. Border Patrol joined the pursuit, which ended after 45 miles, just short of the border. Goings was arrested, with three passengers, including two minors, in the vehicle.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, following an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service, Blackfeet Law Enforcement Services, Glacier County Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Border Patrol.
