Attorney General Dave Sunday revealed charges against a Cumberland County deputy sheriff, Ian Greene, who allegedly caused an on-duty collision last year. Pennsylvania State Police charged Greene with felony aggravated assault by vehicle, misdemeanor reckless endangerment, and summary traffic violations due to a crash on April 15, 2024, that injured a 71-year-old man.

Greene, 30, residing in Carlisle, surrendered and was arraigned on Monday with bail set at $50,000 unsecured. He was reported to be driving a marked sheriff's vehicle at speeds up to 83 mph on Trindle Road. The incident occurred when he was passing vehicles in the opposing lane and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle after deactivating his sirens just before the crash.

Attorney General Sunday commented, "Law enforcement officers have a duty to protect the communities they serve. Meanwhile, this defendant’s alleged actions caused a vehicle collision and serious injuries to a man, while endangering other drivers on the roadway, people he was sworn to protect."

The 71-year-old victim sustained internal injuries and required weeks of hospital recovery. The case, referred by the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office due to Greene's role as deputy sheriff, will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Joseph Sembrot. As a reminder, criminal charges and their details are only allegations; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
