A Massachusetts man known in court documents as a “kilo weight dealer” of cocaine has been sentenced to nearly six years in a federal prison. Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom made the announcement.

Juan Betancourt Sosa, 29, pleaded guilty on October 16, 2024, to a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine. U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy sentenced him to 70 months in prison, followed by four years of federal supervised release.

Betancourt admitted, at the time of his guilty plea, to being a source of supply for a person delivering kilograms of cocaine to a Rhode Island-based conspiracy that trafficked crack cocaine and fentanyl.

According to court information, Betancourt supplied at least six kilograms of cocaine to an individual who then passed the drugs to the conspiracy's leader. At his arrest, two kilos of cocaine were found in the trunk of the car Betancourt was using.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Stacey A. Erickson. The FBI Safe Streets Task Force, DEA, and Providence Police Department led the investigation, with assistance from the United States Postal Inspection Service and East Providence Police Department.
