Pedro Juarez has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Patrick D. Robbins and ATF Special Agent in Charge Jennifer Cicolani. The decision was made by U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer.

Juarez, aged 33 and a resident of Oakland, California, was found guilty by a jury on September 25, 2024. Evidence presented during the trial showed that on August 16, 2023, Juarez compelled a woman to accompany him from San Jose to San Francisco. After allowing the woman to leave, she contacted the police, who located Juarez in San Francisco. During his attempt to flee, Juarez brandished a handgun towards officers but dropped it when his arm hit a railing. The firearm was loaded with ammunition.

In addition to the seven-year prison sentence, Judge Breyer ordered Juarez to serve a three-year supervised release term after his incarceration. Juarez is required to forfeit his interest in the firearm and ammunition involved. He is currently in custody and will begin serving his sentence immediately.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ivana Djak and Noah Stern, with support from Tina Rosenbaum and Madeline Wachs. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
