A man from Pawtucket has been indicted in connection with the 2008 murder of Carl Seebeck, advancing a cold case that has remained unsolved for seventeen years. The announcement was made by Attorney General Peter F. Neronha and Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves.

The defendant, James Grilli, aged 42, was charged following an indictment by the Providence County Grand Jury on April 11, 2024. "It is alleged that on August 29, 2008, the defendant shot and killed Carl Seebeck during an attempted robbery in Pawtucket," the statement detailed.

In a separate incident, Grilli pled nolo contendere to the second-degree murder of 40-year-old Erika Belcourt in Woonsocket on January 23, 2023. He is currently serving a life sentence, with an additional five-year term for murder and associated charges.

His arraignment for the murder of Carl Seebeck is scheduled for April 16, 2025. Assistant Attorney General Scott Erickson and Special Assistant Attorney General Alison Bittl, along with Detectives Craig Letourneau, Michael Dolan, and retired Detective Chip Devine, spearheaded the investigation and are handling the prosecution.
