The New York Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) has launched an inquiry into the recent fatality of David Levine in Saratoga County. Levine died on April 9, 2025, after an interaction with New York State Police (NYSP) personnel.
The encounter occurred in the afternoon when NYSP troopers met Mr. Levine in the parking lot of the State Police Barracks located in Saratoga County. Mr. Levine was reportedly possessing a firearm and did not comply with the officers' requests to put down the weapon. Instead, he allegedly aimed the gun at one of the troopers, prompting the officers to discharge their firearms, hitting Mr. Levine. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later declared deceased. A firearm was retrieved at the scene by the troopers.
According to New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI reviews every occurrence in which a police officer or peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused a person’s death, whether by action or negligence. The officers involved may be either on-duty or off-duty, and the deceased individual could have been armed, unarmed, in custody, or not. If the initial assessment by OSI suggests that an officer may have been responsible for the death, OSI then conducts a comprehensive investigation of the event.
These details are initial findings and may be updated as new information becomes available.
