On April 16, 2025, fifth-grade students from Thompson Public Schools visited the Grand Forks County Courthouse. The group, consisting of around 60 students and their teachers, attended initial appearance hearings conducted by Judge John Thelen. Following the hearings, a panel discussion was organized by Presiding Judge Don Hager.

The panel included Judge Don Hager, Judge Jay Knudson, Kelly Hutton, the Court Administrator, Amber Manninen, Deputy Clerk of Court Supervisor, Beth Skari, JV Court Officer, attorneys David Ogren and Emerson Solemsaas, Sheriff's Deputy Harmon, and Police Department officers Brown and Sampson.

The students, noted for their curiosity, asked many questions. These interactions provided them with insights into the court system and the various careers within the justice system.
