The Michigan Supreme Court has announced that Dan Brubaker, who has held the position of Chief Commissioner for 13 years, will now serve as the Court's Chief Operating Officer. Brubaker's role as Chief Commissioner involved overseeing the progression of cases through the Court, from their filing to their resolution. His previous experience includes ten years as a commissioner, during which he evaluated applications for appeals and created summary reports for justices.
Chief Justice-elect Megan Cavanagh praised the decision, stating, "Dan Brubaker is the perfect choice for this job. My colleagues and I see him every week at conference and know firsthand that we can trust Dan to keep the Court running smoothly. We have complete confidence in his integrity, legal knowledge, and administrative ability, and appreciate his forward-looking approach to solving problems and helping the Court be more efficient in serving the people."
Brubaker expressed his respect for the institution: "During my time with the Court, I have developed a deep and abiding respect for the Court itself and its role as an essential pillar in the governance of this state, as well as its positive impact on the people of Michigan. I want to build on the solid foundation that is already established and am very excited about the opportunity to coordinate and lead long-term strategies for the Court’s efficient operations."
Brubaker is a resident of Lowell and participates actively as a volunteer in his community. He is an alumnus of Albion College and the University of Michigan Law School. Before joining the Commissioner's office, he spent a decade in private practice at a law firm in Grand Rapids.
