A 21-year-old man from Miami, Onil Compres Rodriguez, has pled guilty to making threats to a high school prom through social media, a federal court in Miami confirmed. The threats, which were transmitted across state lines, qualify as a felony offense.
During a court hearing, Rodriguez admitted to sending multiple threatening direct messages on April 30, 2024, targeting schools in New Jersey. The messages included statements such as "I will kill everyone," "they should never have hurt me," and "Wear your bulletproof vests there will be a lot of blood hahaha."
The messages were accompanied by a photo of a prom invitation for a New Jersey high school scheduled for May 2, 2024, along with an image of firearms and ammunition.
Law enforcement was alerted to the threats and traced them back to Rodriguez in Miami. On May 2, the day of the threatened prom, Rodriguez had booked a flight from Miami to Newark, New Jersey. Authorities intercepted him upon landing in Newark, preventing him from reaching the prom.
Senior U.S. District Judge Federico Moreno is set to sentence Rodriguez in Miami on June 25. He faces a potential sentence of up to five years in federal prison.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida and Acting Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of FBI Miami. The investigation was handled by the FBI in Miami, with support from FBI Newark, the Passaic County Sheriff's Office, and the Clifton Police Department. The prosecution is being conducted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Hannah.
