Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that Wayne C. Walker, a 28-year-old resident of New Orleans, has pled guilty to charges relating to the unlawful possession and use of a U.S. Postal Service "arrow" key, which is used by employees to access mail receptacles, and possession of stolen U.S. mail. Walker's plea took place on April 8, 2025, following his arrest on January 26, 2022. He was found with both the key and approximately 80 pieces of stolen mail.
Walker could face up to ten years in prison for the possession of the postal key, and up to five years for the possession of stolen mail. Following imprisonment, Walker could face up to three years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100. Sentencing is scheduled for July 10, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan.
Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson acknowledged the efforts of several investigative bodies, including the United States Postal Inspection Service, Office of the Inspector General, and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. The prosecution is being led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jon Maestri of the General Crimes Unit.
