The District of Puerto Rico's United States Attorney’s Office is marking National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) from April 6 to April 12, 2025. The office plans to conduct training sessions for court personnel, continue educating federal law enforcement agents to act as victim advocates, and promote law enforcement efforts sensitive to the needs of crime victims.
NCVRW was established in 1981 to honor crime victims and survivors, raise awareness about victims’ rights and services, and acknowledge those dedicated to working with crime victims.
This year, the NCVRW theme is "Connecting Healing," emphasizing that shared humanity fosters essential connections to services, rights, and healing. The observance encourages building connections through "kinship" among survivors, advocates, and communities, which can facilitate healing. It advocates ensuring that resources are accessible to all survivors and promoting empathy and intentional support.
“The District of Puerto Rico has taken important steps to protect those who need it most, and we will continue to do so in the future. We affirm our unwavering commitment to supporting victims of crime in their hour of need,” stated U.S. Attorney Muldrow. “We also commend our victim advocates who work tirelessly to secure victims’ rights and support survivors. Their work in support of our prosecution efforts allows us to bring justice to our community.”
