South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has announced the guilty plea and sentencing of Grant Herman, 57, in Greenville County. On April 3rd, Herman admitted to charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree, and Assault and Battery First Degree in front of Judge William C. McMaster, III.
The investigation into Herman commenced following a report from an online service provider about files of child sexual abuse material being uploaded. Subscriber details directed investigators to Herman’s residence in Greenville County. A search warrant executed on August 8, 2024, by the Greenville County Sheriff's Office unearthed additional incriminating material. During subsequent interviews, Herman confessed to physically abusing two children. This prompted a broader sexual assault investigation, during which the victims corroborated that Herman had molested them in 2021 at a different location in Greenville County.
Herman received the maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for both charges, which will be served concurrently. He will be required to register as a sex offender upon release and has forfeited his electronic devices. Furthermore, a permanent restraining order has been placed to prevent future contact with the victims.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Stephen Ryan on behalf of the state.
