A resident of Guatemala entered a guilty plea in federal court related to illegal reentry into the United States, as reported by Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti. The conviction resulted in a time served sentence for the individual, Anastacio Hernandez-Us, aged 46, which was imposed by United States District Judge W. Scott Hardy on April 4, 2025.
Court documents reveal that immigration officials apprehended Hernandez-Us on February 7, 2025, determining his illegal presence in the country. Hernandez-Us was previously deported from the U.S. on September 23, 2010, after an encounter with immigration officials in Louisiana. Since his arrest in February, Hernandez-Us has remained in custody and will stay detained until his deportation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kelly M. Locher. "Acting United States Attorney Rivetti commended U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Hernandez-Us."
The case is part of Operation Take Back America, which is described as a nationwide initiative. It is focused on utilizing the Department of Justice's resources to counter illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and safeguard communities from violent crime. "This initiative marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice."
