A federal jury in Pierre, South Dakota, has found Eddie Bromwich, a 45-year-old resident of Lower Brule, guilty of two counts of assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer. The verdict was announced on April 3, 2025, following a three-day trial.

Each of the charges against Bromwich carries a potential penalty of up to eight years in federal prison, a fine of $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment for the Federal Crime Victims Fund. The charges stem from a February 6, 2024, incident, during which Bromwich resisted arrest after being stopped for speeding by Bureau of Indian Affairs officers on the Lower Brule Sioux Indian Reservation. The confrontation resulted in a physical altercation, in which an officer sustained a broken finger.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian Murphy and Kimberly Zachrison. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs - Office of Justice Services, Lower Brule Agency. "A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date has not been set," confirmed U.S. Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. Following the verdict, Bromwich was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service until his sentencing.
