Okemah resident sentenced for assault on Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation

Cainen Isaac Shephard, 23, of Okemah, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country. The announcement was made by the United States Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Shephard pleaded guilty on October 9, 2024, after investigators revealed he fired at a pickup truck with three passengers in the parking lot of an Okemah apartment complex on July 2, 2024. The attack, intended to harm the driver, resulted in no injuries. The incident took place in Okfuskee County, on the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Okemah Police Department. The case was presided over by the Honorable Ronald E. White, Chief U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Shephard remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until his transfer to a United States Bureau of Prisons facility. He will serve a non-paroleable sentence.
