A Guatemalan national, Wilmer Armando Xitumul-Godinez, has admitted to immigration violations in Texas. The announcement came from Acting U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin, Jr. The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to unlawful reentry by a previously deported alien in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge Zack Hawthorn on March 31, 2025.
Xitumul-Godinez was detained in October 2024, following his deportation in September the same year. For his actions, he could face a sentence of up to two years in federal prison. However, the actual sentencing will depend on the court's evaluation based on the advisory guidelines and other statutory factors. A sentencing hearing will occur once the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigation.
The case is being scrutinized under Operation Take Back America, a national campaign by the Department of Justice. This initiative aims to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels, and protect communities from violent crime through combined efforts with organized crime and neighborhood safety projects.
The investigation is being handled by the Department of Homeland Security alongside the Port Arthur Police Department. The prosecution is led by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tommy L. Coleman, with assistance from the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
