After a five-day trial, a federal jury has convicted Darren Tramaine Tony Mitchell, a 35-year-old man from Vallejo, on charges related to drug and gun offenses. The verdict was announced by Acting U.S. Attorney Michele Beckwith. The proceedings took place before Senior United States District Judge William B. Shubb.
The trial included evidence such as recordings of Mitchell's phone conversations, where he allegedly arranged a deal involving 1,000 methamphetamine pills with a buyer who later testified in court. Federal law enforcement officials subsequently executed a search warrant at Mitchell’s home in Vallejo, where they discovered methamphetamine pills and an industrial pill pressing machine. Additionally, agents found a loaded AR-15 rifle and a loaded Smith & Wesson pistol, the latter having an obliterated serial number, hidden inside the dishwasher.
The investigation leading to Mitchell's conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cameron Desmond and Sam Stefanki.
Mitchell is set to be sentenced by Judge Shubb on July 7, 2025. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a potential $1 million fine. The final sentence will be determined by the court after considering statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which include various other considerations.
