New York Attorney General Letitia James has released security camera footage related to the death of Gary Worthy, an incident currently under investigation. The footage was obtained as part of the Attorney General’s inquiry into Worthy's death, which occurred after a confrontation with New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers in Queens on November 19, 2024.

According to reports, officers responded to a 911 call about a robbery in Queens that night. Upon their arrival, a witness identified Mr. Worthy as the suspect. During the encounter, gunfire was exchanged, resulting in Worthy being transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. A gun was recovered at the scene. An officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment before being released.

The footage, obtained by the Attorney General's Office of Special Investigation (OSI), shows the events as captured by nearby security cameras. This move comes under Attorney General James’ policy of releasing camera footage during OSI probes to enhance transparency and public trust.

Under New York State Executive Law Section 70-b, OSI reviews all incidents where a law enforcement officer may have caused a death, whether the officer was on-duty or off-duty, and regardless of whether the person was armed or unarmed. Depending on the findings, OSI may conduct a full investigation.

The footage release does not suggest any stance on the guilt or innocence of involved parties or indicate whether charges will be filed against any individual.

The public is advised that the videos may contain disturbing content.
